Graeber’s Lumber Company was founded by John C. Graeber and Willard P. Graeber on April 1, 1952, on a small rented piece of ground adjacent to our present property. The first few years were lean years due to our lack of knowledge and experience in the building supply business, but as we became established an better known in the industry as progressive people, the Company started to expand and employ outside help. By 1954, we rented additional ground, and through long hours and hard work the organization started to grow.

On December 23, 1955, 4.34 acres of ground were purchased and an additional 1.3 acres of ground were acquired on March 18, 1960. In May of 1963, John Graeber retired to Egg Harbor City, and the business was continued by Willard.

In June of 1967, the Company suffered a disastrous fire which destroyed all of our sheds and the millwork shop. However, the Company never closed its doors nor lost an order. A shop was rented in Penndel, and within seven days we were producing quality millwork with all new equipment. During 1969, we constructed our present 100’ x 225’ warehouse and shop. Because of our continued growth, we were forced to expand and constructed a new three-story showroom and warehouse. Our floor area is approximately 51,000 square feet, and our showroom features four-sample kitchens and all the products we handle.

At the present time, our Company is actually a one-stop building supply yard. We do all types of millwork, handle complete kitchens, and inventory the largest stock of lumber in the Philadelphia area. The Company was founded on the belief that good ethical and earnest business practices ensure continued growth and respect. This belief, coupled with hard work, dedication and personal attention to the public, has enabled our Company to enjoy an excellent reputation in both the lumber industry and in the surrounding community.

Our continued progress and success depends largely upon the cooperation and teamwork of each employee, regardless of their job. A constant effort must be made to assure that the high level of public respect and confidence we have earned over the years is maintained. Each of us has a responsibility to give the public the high level of service on which our continued success depends.
